Message from the President

Dear Students,

Welcome to the University of Taipei (UT).

UT, a comprehensive university, is deeply committed to urban development and possesses distinctive professional characteristics. Our institution was established in 2013 by merging the Taipei Municipal University of Education and Taipei Physical Education College. Our history can be traced back to the Zhishan Yan School, founded in 1895, which was the predecessor of the Taipei Municipal University of Education, and the Taipei Municipal Junior College of Physical Education, established in 1968, which later became Taipei Physical Education College. Over a century, we have cultivated numerous outstanding talents in education, arts and culture, science, and public service and nurtured many athletes who have gained international recognition.

Building upon the solid foundation of the University of Education and the Physical Education College, and with solid support from the Taipei City Government, UT focuses on three critical educational directions:

  • Paragon of Teacher Education: Our teacher certification exam pass rates consistently exceed the national average. We participate in international educational outreach programmes, bringing quality education to disadvantaged areas worldwide.

  • Incubator for Gold Medallists: UT has consistently contributed members to Taiwan's Olympic teams and excels in national intercollegiate sports competitions. We're proud to be hosting the 2027 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games.

  • Think Tank for Urban Studies: Our newly established School of Urban Studies leads research on urban issues, organises policy seminars, and conducts governance analyses. This role underscores our commitment to understanding and shaping the future of our cities.

To support these directions, we are committed to five areas of institutional development: Teaching and Curriculum Enhancement, Industry-Government-Academia Linkages, University Social Responsibility Practice, International Collaboration Foundation, and Borderless Campus Creation.

UT continually revitalises its academic departments and research centres to ensure our curriculum and research reflect current social trends, industry needs, and practical applications. As a municipal university, we leverage our advantage in local engagement to form alliance networks with domestic and international institutions in education, sports, arts and culture, science, and urban studies to offer our students and scholars unparalleled opportunities for cross-institutional, cross-city, and global mobility in both practical and academic pursuits.

We cordially invite you to join us in carrying forward our honourable legacy, influencing our city, connecting Taiwan, and reaching out to the international stage.
